Was Jesus crucified naked?

A NO catholic recently told me that Jesus was crucified naked, and they figured this out through historical research.

I have never heard this, but when I hear historical, I assume the teaching is heretical.

There is nothing wrong in using history to supplement our understanding of scripture. Pope Pius XII specifically encouraged this and my pre-Vatican II Saint Andrew's Missal uses all sorts of historical information to help set the stage to the liturgical year.

Historically, people were crucified naked. It was meant to be an embarrassing death.

In addition, scripture specifically states He was stripped of his clothes.

Out of respect for our Lord He typically isn't depicted nude on the cross.

I would think since it's the ultimate humiliation, the crucifixion of Christ, man killing his own God, God suffered unspeakable torments in mind, body and soul in the person of Christ. If Our Lord was naked on the cross, it would make sense, because stripping an innocent man of his dignity completely to atone for sin, it would seem he would have to suffer on the cross naked to make reparation for all those who are humiliated by being unjustly stripped naked.

Not a pleasant thing to think about, but theologically it would make sense.

So let me get this straight.  He wasn't wearing red shoes?
ADORABLE Saviour, consider my many wants, and grant me those graces which Thou knowest I stand in need of to do Thy will in all things.

No, but His feet were covered with blood.

And that is the symbolism of the red shoes.
If anyone deludes himself by thinking he is serving God, when he has not learned to control his tongue, the service he gives is vain.  If he is to offer service pure and unblemished in the sight of God, who is our Father, he must take care of orphans and widows in their need, and keep himself untainted by the world.   James 1:27.

It was a mockery of people who give more attention to clothing than is reasonable.  Our Lord died naked, just as He came into the world.  Clothes just don't matter as much as some people seem to think they do.
