Is this true?  Not sure myself, but thought I would post for discussion.  Heard this mention on Al Kresta's radio show.

Tuesday, March 3, 2009The Newt Evangelization: Gingrich to become Catholic
Buried deep inside this long and wonkish profile of Newt Gingrich in Sunday's New York Times, was this little nugget that, I suspect, went largely unnoticed:
Quote:[Image: 01republicans.1-500.jpg]At a moment when the role of religious fundamentalism in the party is a central question for reformers, Gingrich, rather than making any kind of case for a new enlightenment, has in fact gone to great lengths to placate Christian conservatives. The family-values crowd has never completely embraced Newt, probably because he has been married three times, most recently to a former Hill staff member, Callista Bisek. In 2006, though, Gingrich wrote a book called “Rediscovering God in America” — part of a new canon of work he has done reaffirming the role of religion in public life. The following year, he went on radio with the evangelical minister James Dobson to apologize for having been unfaithful to his second wife. (A Baptist since graduate school, Gingrich said he will soon convert to Catholicism, his wife’s faith.)

Praise God!!  As a convert myself, these stories always make me so happy.  We should keep him in our prayers as he prepares for the Easter Sacraments!  Let's pray especially that he truly and fully embraces the Catholic Faith and Tradition with his whole heart and not only in name.
I wonder how his marriage gets rectified with the Church?

His (third) wife is Catholic.

I've often wondered about that.  How did the Church traditionally treat the marriages of converts who had divorced and remarried before their conversion(as opposed to these days, where they hand out annulments like napkins on BBQ chicken night)?
Doubtless, he will be subject to all sorts of temptations as he approaches conversion. Each victory for Christ is a defeat for Satan. Keep this man in your prayers.
Given his woeful track record in all things personal and political, I just can't see him embracing true traditional Catholicism and assisting at the nearest TLM. I'm thinking more of a Tony Blair-type 'conversion', aka CINO. But hey, ya never know.

All the more reason to pray for him.  He's on the right track, at least.
I saw Newt Gingrich at the Capital back in 1997 or 98 (the year the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke). Anyway, I was so excited to be on the House Floor in the middle of a debate (Newt was at the helm), that I am clueless to this day as to what the debate was about!

I hope it's true he's converting to Catholicism. Thanks be to God, if so.

I ran into Mr. Gingrich at the JFK Airport. He acknowledged my sovereign presence and I allowed him to return to his business.
This story is true.  I saw the former Speaker over the weekend.  Rumor in DC has that he'll be welcomed into the church at the Bascilica by the Archbishop himself (though don't quote me on it)...
