I hear that a lot- and usually I would agree since most of the Bishops in America are well, not exactly Orthodox, to put it nicely. But is there some other reason an American would never be elected?

Jealousy, provincialism, nationalism.  America is not the most popular country in the world under the best of circumstances and since she dominates both militarily and economically at the present moment it is highly unlikely that the Conclave would hand the Papacy to America as well.  That would be like giving another Super Bowl ring to the Pittsburgh Steelers or another $100 million to Bill Gates.  Coals to Newcastle.

So it's politics then. That's what I figured. lol

A Pontifical High Mass celebrated by the Pope in the Old Rite is quite a production, or so I've heard.  It's highly unlikely there's anyone still alive in the Vatican who even remembers the broad generalities, never mind the intricacies.  Maybe they're studying it and making all the preparations even now.  If they're going to do it they need to pull out all the stops, not just a Low Mass.

Right ya are doc. I once saw John XXIII celebrate a High Mass on a video I had (I cant remember what it was called) and it is a HUGE production.

We can only hope and pray.  :pray2: (The pessimist in me doesn't think it'll happen anytime soon).
Stranger things have happened.  :pray2:

A Pontifical High Mass celebrated by the Pope in the Old Rite is quite a production, or so I've heard.  It's highly unlikely there's anyone still alive in the Vatican who even remembers the broad generalities, never mind the intricacies.  Maybe they're studying it and making all the preparations even now.  If they're going to do it they need to pull out all the stops, not just a Low Mass.

Would it require taking the old crown/tiara out and dusting it off for such a mass? It was my understanding that since it was "no longer" needed, with the new mass, it was stored away.
What's different about a Pontifical High Mass in the Old Rite versus just a regular High Mass TLM? This could explain why Pope Benedict, who called the New Mass a fabrication, has not celebrated a TLM.

I hereby nominate MagisterMusicae to facilitate this.
