A caller to Rush's show asked if the "new" news about the Catholic Church scandal is a planned attack by Obama and the Democrats because the US Catholic Bishops were against Obamacare. The caller said he realized that there were real complaints and real crimes were committed but the timing is suspicious.

Rush (and I am paraphrasing here) said "The Catholic Church is not totally innocent here but I think you are right that this is a planned attack because the left hates the Catholic Church because of their stand against abortion and against Obamacare so if the Pope finally realizes that the liberal left is trying to destroy the Church then this could make the Vatican have a stronger influence in the world."

This was incredible to hear someone like Rush say something like this.

I hope that the Holy Father has an "ah!" moment, like Blessed Pius IX, when the liberals tried to destroy him. This was a turning point for Blessed Pius IX, and he reacted  with the syllabus of errors --- let's hope that Benedict XVI has a turning point and uses the remaining years of his potificate and life to scold the modern world and strengthen the traditional element within the Church.

....well we can dream can't we?
I'm not surprised.

For the twenty years I've been listening to Rush I have always found him to be a defender of the Catholic Church.

Catholics should call in and thank him, encourage him to talk more about this.
Limbaugh has always said good things but then gone on to sabotage himself. I have often wondered what goes on between the two halves of his brain.

Exactly, and I always thought Rush was towing the NeoCon line during the Bush years defending Republicans every way he could no matter what they did... Even though Bush might have been conservative on most social issues he was fiscally a Socialist president who went against the Constitution on more accounts then one.

I myself listen to the words of Lou Dobbs, Michael Savage and Judge Napolitano, and agree with the politics of Pat Buchanan, Alan Keyes and even Ron Paul to a certain extent.

As far as defending the  Catholic faith, remember, he is defending the current Ecumenical NO Catholic Faith, not the Traditional Catholic Faith, pre Vatican II..

true, but he could do a lot of good if his protestant listeners realized how the media is trying to destroy the Church, and why, and defended us.   his listeners mostly if not totally agree with the Church on the issues the media attacks us on.

yesterday, our K of C council sent out an article by a Jewish man who is standing up for the Church during this persecution.  i don't know where it was originally published, wish the grand knight hadn't left out that info.

the more support we get from non-Catholics, the better.

I'm not a Sede, but I highly doubt Rush Limbaugh knows much about the Traditional Catholic Movement or who the progressive Bishops are who operate within the Church...So as far as I'm concerned he is defending Cardinal Mahony equally as much as he is defending Bishop Finn.
That he knows that there are leftists trying to destroy the Catholic Church shows he knows a lot more about Catholicism than most of our Bishops.

INterestingly, I heard an interview of him many years ago where a Traditionalist who'd been a protege/student of Fr. Grunner called in and stood his ground against Rush's neonconservatist/republican stance, and Rush was impressed and asked him for his e-mail.

I think Rush has a lot more good will than a lot of "trads"
