I musta hallucinated this, but I thought the page on this site about Marian Apparitions "Worthy of Belief" used to contain OL Akita:
http://www.fisheaters.com/apparitions.html

but it does not.

Now, I'm under the impression that in June of '88, then-Cardinal Ratzinger as Prefect of CDF definitively stated that Akita was 'worthy of belief'

Was it or wasn't it? Why isn't it on FE?
You're not alone, that is exactly as I remember. Curioser and curioser and curioser.

Good question, not sure.

What about Banneux and Beauraing?  Pontmain?

Quote:Church Approves Messages, Weeping Statue As Supernatural

April, 1984—Most. Rev. John Shojiro Ito, Bishop of Niigata, Japan, after years of extensive investigation, declares the events of Akita, Japan to be of supernatural origin, and authorizes throughout the entire diocese the veneration of the Holy Mother of Akita.

On April 22, 1984, after eight years of investigations, after consultation with the Holy See, the messages of Our Lady of Akita were approved by the Bishop of the diocese. In the Japanese village of Akita, a statue of the Madonna, according to the testimony of more than 500 Christians and non-Christians, including the Buddhist mayor of the town, has shed blood, sweat and tears. A nun, Agnes Katsuko Sasagawa has received the stigmata and has received messages from Our Lady.

June, 1988—Vatican City—Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Prefect, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, gives definitive judgement on the Akita events and messages as reliable and worthy of belief.
I don't think it's changed, but I'll ask Vox...

ETA: It's obviously not a comprehensive list.  Compare that list with this one:

Nope, OL of Akita was never on that page.  Here it is from 2006:

You must have remembered it wrong.

I wonder why Akita is not on the list?

Somewhat off-topic, but regarding approved Marian apparitions, an interesting question is whether an apparition can be said to gain implicit approval through a pontiff's elevation of a shrine connected with that apparition to the status of a basilica? e.g. John XXIII & Our Lady of Health, Vailankanni. This has been my understanding as it concerns my avatar .

As far as any list on any site goes,  I would guess due to lack of time.

Wow, was sure that was on there.

Weird, I guess my hallucination theory has another point in favor.
