Yes, if it limits itself to clergy. They're the ones responsible for pretty much any serious Catholic being in error.

Yes as long as it inspects all the Hierachy from Pope to the lowliest Priest and burns those found to hold modernist tendencies. I foresee an empty Vatican in that case though.

I think all the Inquisition (now known as the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) could do would be to improve our situation by getting rid of the most horrid modernists.  It certainly would improve things, though.
Pity the people who run it are themselves the most horrid modernists ... !

Well, of course none of this would even get off the ground without first cleaning house in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

I agree. Though lets remember that burning at the stake was a "civil" procedure of Justice not ecclesiastical.
