September 14 is the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross and my parish is having a Mass followed by veneration of a relic of the true cross. This is supposedly the cross that was found by St. Helena in the 4th century, right? What's the deal with these relics? Are they actually from the true cross? How does each parish end up with a splinter of wood from Christ's cross?
Here is a good article on relics in general: http://www.fisheaters.com/relics.html
