Roger McCaffrey sees the real possibility of the Pope consecrating a fifth SSPX bishop which, he feels, would “solidify” any agreement. The new bishop, he said, “would be a message to the society malcontents that the Pope is sincere but, to those same people, he would personify, by virtue of the fact that he would remain with Fellay and Rome, that the malcontents are fringe.” He also believes the bishop would guarantee that the SSPX would continue if Fellay were to die.

McCaffrey’s favourite candidate would be Father Franz Schmidberger, district superior of the SSPX in Germany. “He is someone none of the malcontents can criticize per se,” he said, adding that he was in a senior position in 1988 when the other bishops, including Bishop Fellay, were illegitimately consecrated by SSPX’s founder, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre.

Wow!!! Pope will give Fellay ammunition with this if the other's don't go along

Fr. Schmidberger wouldn't be a good choice to consecrate a bishop to alleviate some of the Society's concerns.

Someone more allied with the +Williamson camp would be a far, far better choice.  Not to mention someone MUCH younger.  Fr. Schmidberger must be getting old.

Thanks.
Keep in mind that the Society is run by the Superior General. They technically can have any bishop ordain their priests. So the Society can survive without a "Society" bishop. But maybe having their own bishop will be written into the agreement. Maybe their constitution will be altered.
Maybe make Father John Berg FSSP a Bishop to work with Bishop Fellay in bringing the society back into the fold and at the same time getting the 2 groups to at least work together for tradition. Father Berg was not one of the SSPX priests who left to form the FSSP and is very orthodox and not against the SSPX, he used to recommend their Ignatian retreats in Los Gatos , California. How great would this be!!!
