{Of course, since when did we ever hear preachings on contraception and the sins of the flesh from  the pulpits?  It is always about social justice, peace, etc.  If only the neo-Caths were properly instructed in the faith, Nobama would never have been president)

Brooklyn bishop rues failure to teach the faith, says Catholic vote for Obama ‘stretches the imagination’

In the latest in a series of diocesan newspaper columns on the upcoming election, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn lamented the Obama-Biden campaign’s emphasis on abortion and contraception.

“The reality is that we as a Church have failed to teach the truths of the faith in a clear and convincing manner to the Catholic faithful,” he wrote. “However, the issue is not what we as a Church believe but whether or not we ought to be obligated to act in a manner contrary to our own belief.”

Bishop DiMarzio added:

It is inconceivable to me how Catholics could support such policies. Indeed, Roman Catholics who support abortion rights and vote for a candidate because of those policies, place him/herself outside of the life of the Church. In so doing, they also place themselves in moral danger.

Is it possible to vote for somebody despite their support for these policies? To my mind, it stretches the imagination, especially when there is another option. The dignity and sanctity of human life are the foundational values upon which all other policies are built. Concern for the poor, the stranger in our midst, they are all predicated upon our belief in the dignity and sanctity of human life.

Remember Vince, it's our fault too. We're just as bad as the "progressive" (read heretics) people.
I remember listening to someone who was in charge of religous education in a parish over there give a talk. She prefaced it by saying "i know that the Vatican wants ......... but we do it this different way because our experts say ...................."

Indeed. The absurdity of Traditionalists being put on the same level as CINOs, while it is Traditionalists who are the ones who take this  teaching of birth control, sexual morality, etc the most seriosuly . Truly an embarrassment for the Vatican.

As Mithrandylan recently said, we have to defend being a trad on this board.

We do try our best to bring up our children as faithful Catholics, but in the end if they go the other way, what's to be done?   The resposibility that God entrusted to us is no longer imputed to us.

Here is what's happening even at this late date:  "Md. Catholic Priest Defends Gay Marriage Before Congregation Despite Opposition"

But nobody in this thread criticized trads . . .

I will be very happy to criticize this priest and anybody else who promotes gay marriage.

Am I missing something? No such point was made in the article here.
I hear little by little the newly appointed bishops speaking out  more forcefully, hopefully the next step is excommunicating some politicians to set an example.
