i don't particularly expect the poor and uneducated to afford and then make their way to the shrine, nor for the pilgrimage to be the focus of a trip for one wealthy enough to make the journey.

modern travel and all..
I see similar here in Chicago. Many no longer trust in the Church since the cataclysm, but retain some of the faith. They aren't hidden saints but more clinging to little bits from the Faith with a modern twist. No one lifts a finger to help or bring them back.
