Today we celebrate Memorial Day a day in which we remember those who gave their life so that we can have the freedom which we have. Namely we remember and commemorate fellow veterans who gave their lives for their country. In a special way let us however as Christians not forget to remember those holy priests, bishops, popes, confessors, laity, and much more so the holy martyrs who gave their life as soldiers for Christ the true king. It is because of them that we are able to take hold of the sacraments, it is through them that we have the Holy Catholic Faith, and which allows us to receive Christ in Holy Communion which would not be possible without the generosity of these fellow soldiers of Christ.

It is through the perseverance of our Spanish brothers and sister who came to this side of the world preaching unceasingly and full of zeal for Christ that we have the various missions which we have, especially in California. It is through people like Blessed Junipero Serra which we have 21 missions in California including the 9 which he himself founded.

Today as we all know, especially those living here in the United States, it is Memorial Day. This is a day in which we commemorate those veterans and others who gave their lives for their country. It is through these patriots that we have the liberty that we have. It is through them that we can stay safe and in which we have various opportunities through the various sacrifices that were made by these heroic acts of various men and women.

Let us however as Catholics not forget today though to give a special commemoration those holy priests, bishops, popes, confessors, laity, and much more the holy martyrs who gave their life as soldiers for Christ the True King. It is because of them that we have the Holy Catholic Faith which was the same faith in which our forefathers offered sacrifices, Masses, and much more. It is through tem that we are allowed to receive Christ in Holy Communion which would not be possible without the generosity of these fellow soldiers of Christ.

It is through the perseverance of peoples such as our fellow Spanish brothers and sisters who came to the New World preaching unceasingly and full of zeal for Christ that we have the various 21 missions here in California. It is through holy saints such as Thomas Aquinas who gave his life developing the most profound systematic form of philosophy ever to be created, namely that system of Thomism. That philosophical system which is still in use today by various people. It is through the efforts of people like Saint Francis de Sales, in which the faith did not totally collapse under the threat of the protestant reformation and Calvinism. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton helped in developing classes of religious education for the poor and uncatechized.  Saint Joan of Arc helped saved France and the faith from the constant threat of the British.

Furthermore today which is the feast of Saint Philip Neri, let us not forget his special holiness and simple living of the gospel which he shared joyously through his life and actions. It is these men and women who can be called true soldiers for Christ.

Viva Cristo Rey!

may their souls and the souls of all the faithful deoarted rest in peace. Amen.
Pray Pray Pray
Virgo Lauretana, pray for those who have poured out their blood, even those on spiritual battlegrounds, and may we find courage that our sacrifices be one with the blood of Christ.
