I stumbled across this story on CNN where one of their employees who is a Catholic is going to read the Bible from cover to cover for the first time in her life.  She started on Easter and is going to post weekly updates until she's done, which should be in a year from the sounds of it.  It is fairly predictable.  She comments on what she likes and how surprised about what she doesn't know was in the Bible.  (HER God wouldn't be so punitive to the people of Sodom.  That is not the God SHE knows... Eye-roll).  Of course, she is reading it on her own with only the footnotes in her Bible so when she comes across something difficult she doesn't have much to go on by way of context.  While I've only read the first few so far it seems like she will complete this 'journey' saying that the Bible made her atheist/agnostic or that she picks and chooses what she believes in the Bible.  Nothing to surprising expected, but hey, it is CNN.

If you're interested, here are the links I've found so far.  The CNN "BELIEF BLOG" is terribly difficult to navigate and find what you want so I'm having trouble finding the rest of them so far.

I applaud the effort, but yea she is going to be shocked quite a bit including by many things (just wait till Joshua!) in the Gospels and Pauline Letters.  But hey that is what happens when you struck the difficult things from the lectionary, missal, and breviary.
