The town of Altötting, Bayern, near where Papa Emeritus was born, is the home of a major Marian Shrine called the Gnadenkapelle or Chapel of Grace, often called the 'Lourdes of Germany'.:

Altötting is 'twinned' with The Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health in Velankanni in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India, with Częstochowa, Lourdes, Fatima, Loreto, Příbram in the Czech Republic, site of a Marian Shrine called the Holy Mountain, and Appleton, Wisconsin! Is there something Marian about Appleton that I'm not aware of, or is it just 'We've got to have a US town to twin with'?

Why not be twinned with a Marian shrine? What a great privelege!!!
The shrine of Our Lady of Good Help is in Champion, WI.  It's (relatively) close to Appleton iirc...
