Introduction - OldBlasphemer - 02-12-2007

Hi I am an Australian Christian.
After dealing with a teenage boy who contracted encephalitis I found that sexuality was more of a problem to him than mathematics was to the mathematically challenged. I became interested in the way children deal with sexuality. I found this site while researching adolescent dating. After reading the inciteful comments by John Mallyon about why girls dont get dates I resolved to read more of what Catholics have to say about life issues. They are interested in ideas that produce good fruit which makes dialogue important if I want to be real.

Welcome, OldBlasphemer.

Do you have a link for the article you are referring to? I have never heard of Mallyon.

Why oh why would John Mallyon's comments be of interest to anyone?

I believe you refer to the extremely weak and very untalented Australian actor from the horrid 70's Australia Film Industry !

Oh how embarrassing :(

Sorry I forgot to say welcome! Which brings me to another question. Since when do children deal with sexuality? I had no idea adolescents dated. :huh?:

<font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman">You may be worried to find out that a recent <a target="_blank" href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/02/16/nsex16.xml">Unicef report</a> stated that for 16 out of 17 of the wealthiest countries with the data, between 15 per cent and 28 per cent of young people had had sex by the age of 15. For the UK, the figure was 40 per cent.

By the way, welcome, OldBlasphemer! [Image: hellosmiley.gif]

Now I know why you're grumpy, knowing statistics like that !
Children should not be sexually active - who is in charge out there? Who is filling up their happy little heads with such things?

<font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman">I live in France, but I suppose that the case is pretty much the same in other developed countries.

This may only apply to my country, though I have read about some fighting it elsewhere: sex education; distribution of contraceptives to teenagers in school and explanation of how to use them (when I was 12 or 13, that was); school doctors making available flyers on teenage sexuality; and so on. The degree of indoctrination may vary from country to country, but I am sure that it happens elsewhere.

There is also the fact that the body, especially that of women, is objectified, be it in advertisements, music videos, TV series, magazines and so on. Sex is banalised on TV shows (the USA may be a peculiar exception to this rule, as far as I know, rather coping with widespread representation of violence). There are lustful images where none are expected (for example, in advertisements for mobile phone logos in video game magazines). Thus sexuality is incessantly aroused in the young.

Another major problem is therefore the widespread availability of pornography, accessible to any family with the internet; and how long may a child, knowing its existence, and having his mind poisoned by the suggestive images he is continuously subjected to, stained also by original sin, and incited by his friends who have succumed to the filth, resist attempting to view such things?

In my experience, pretty much all the teenagers who have not had intercourse yearn for it and have fallen slave to Onanism.

I suppose that I do have reason to be grumpy.

Why would any parent allow their children to be exposed to such abuse? There should be a revolution against schools.

I am sorry for showing contempt for this horrid issue. But this certainly does not happen my children's school - the kitchen table of a Catholic home where the only TV that is shown is what is suitable for the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary opposite it to veiw.
I can only rear my ten from my kitchen so that is what I do.
I will not be 'conditioned' nor let my children be conditioned to the sinful world. I pray that news of it will always shock them as it does me.
