Mexican Sugar Cookies? - Historian - 12-19-2008

Does anybody know of a recipe for Mexican Sugar Cookies? (I dont know what theyre called) You know, the ones that are either choclate brown, pink, or yellow? If it's possible, I wanna bake some for Christmas.

 No idea, but I love them. Where I come from in the States, you can buy them in the supermarket bakery, but the ones made by the Mexican ladies at our parish were better!

Do you mean 'polvorones'? You can find recipes all over the net.
Look for the Mexican recipes, as there are many variations, from everywhere that the Spanish conquered.

Here's one lifted from HowStuffWorks (never tried it; I'm partial to the Spanish recipes-I guess it's in the blood).

Gradually add 1-1/2 cups flour and baking powder. Beat at low speed until well blended, scraping down side of bowl once. An aside: Why is it that everytime something "Mexican" is shown in a photo, there has to be a pair of maracas or a sombrero around? (see picture in my post, above)
