Gay priest to open new church - Beware_the_Ides - 11-02-2009

An ornate, disused chapel in the middle of an ancient graveyard in Swindon could get a new lease of life.

Father Mark Paris is from the Independent Benedictus Fellowship.

He wants to revamp the disused building situated in Radnor Street Cemetery which used to be used for funerals.

As a gay priest he also wants to set up a church for those who feel excluded from other places of worship because of their sexuality.

Father Mark's fellowship is in line with the Catholic faith, but is independent from Rome.

Father Mark said: "We don't follow the Pope, although we recognise him and he recognises us and our Catholic holy orders, we are not in communion with the Vatican."
[emphasis added]
"Our services can be conducted in Latin and can be traditional but often our hymns are more uplifting and evangelical."

it's not just going to be a gay church it's all inclusive, open to all
Fr Mark Paris
Father Mark Paris wants to open the Swindon chapel as a place of worship for those who feel disillusioned with traditional services and churches.

"We are reaching out to those people who have lost their way because of their sexuality and decided to leave the church. But it's not just going to be a gay church it's all inclusive, open to all, but I want to reach out to those who are gay especially."

"Being gay myself and a priest I know how hard it is to be in the church, so I want to reach out to these people and say come back to church. I want to give people the facilities to be able to follow Christ and feel comfortable about it."

Father Mark also feels his job is to take God to the people: "I will go out on to the streets, into nursing homes, everywhere."

If he is given permission to open up the chapel it will cost around £10,000 to refurbish:

"We won't have to do much inside, the pews and even the hymn books are there."

"But we will have to replace the windows and upgrade the outside where it has been vandalised a bit."

Swindon Borough Council says it needs to see a business plan from the church before a decision can be made," he said.

"...in line with the Catholic faith..."  That just ticks me off.  It should clarify that Catholic teaching condemns homosexuality.  Of course, why should we expect an honest, full disclosure.  :realmad: :censored: :realmad:

This "priest" is not Catholic. He is an agent of Satan.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says:

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

2396 Among the sins gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices.

how terribly terribly sad...how many souls will be led astray by this man who is so convinced he is doing the right thing but is causing so much harm?

Only the ones who want to be led astray.

Would it be not possible to open a new subgroup for the dirt like this, and keep the rest of the subgroups  for the good and elevating news or topics?

If you can change something change, but if not there is no reason to bring such things to the common table.

Question....  other than the obvious homosexuality issue, how is this really different from other "catholic" churches like the National Catholic church?  They are not Catholic and should legally not be allowed to use the name Catholic.  Drives me crazy!!!!

This is so upsetting to me as we had a guy like this at our old parish...  a 'priest' in the NO parish we used to attend (notice I said USED to)...  I never liked his homilies, always had a left bent, both politically and culturally... he made the congregation change the words of the prayers to gender neutral or be left out entirely, such as in the Creed, it became for US instead of for us men... etc. etc.  He's the reason I started looking elsewhere and found the TLM Praise God! ...    one Sunday, he got up to the pulpit and announced that there was a letter included in the bulletin explaining that he was going to be away on retreat, and so and so was filling in.... he told us he was going on a retreat for GAY PRIESTS!  The Diocese was evidently perfectly fine with him serving in our parish, and nothing more was ever said about it until a few years later when he was quietly transferred to some 'administrative' post...  scary stuff....    My point is, obviously, theres more than this one guy opening his 'new' church...  I wonder if others like him will leave their parishes behind and join up....  clean house of them all, I say!

I really believe we are on the cusp of a great schism.  The Vaticans talks with the SSPX, the recent developments with the Anglicans and the pending pronouncement on Medjugorje, I believe, are all good signs of a return to orthodoxy.  During his apostolic journey to the US, BXVI said himself that he sees (I paraphrase), 'a smaller but more theologically pure church in the future.'

It will be very painful for those on the "losing" side and I think we need to guard against prideful gloating and pray that those misguided souls will come to repentence.  Think of how painful it is for those of us who watch the ongoing desecration of Holy Mother Church and that will give you some notion of how it will feel for the libs when they are "corrected."

I don't think this guy has any real ties to the Catholic Church (except maybe he left it at some point).  Just guessing, by I think he's probably from one of the numerous "Old Catholic" groups.  They're Catholic in name only (literally).

Re: Gay priest to open new church - DesperatelySeeking - 11-02-2009

And why can't the BBC exercise the smallest bit of journalistic due diligence, and find out just how "not in communion with the Vatican" and "in line with the Catholic faith" DON'T go together???

Another liberal news organization in bleeding-hearted sympathy to liberal causes, unwilling to show the least bit of integrity in being a cheerleader for the leftists.
