The Passion of Joan of Arc - Clare Brigid - 01-07-2010

This past week, I saw The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) on DVD for the first time, and watched it along with the oratorio from the 1990's, Voices of Light, that accompanies it on DVD.

Incredible!  Has anyone else seen this film and listened to the oratorio?

Wonderful film! One of my absolute favorites! (My father fell asleep, however so perhaps it isn't for everyone )

I have a version of the film without the music.. but it's definitely one of my all-time favorites. I'd love to get the DVD with the Voices of Light.

I thought I probably wouldn't like it, because it's a silent film.  But I was enthralled!    I rented it on Netflix.  I wanted to have my own copy, so I got it from Amazon.com; I've already lended it.  I also downloaded Voices of Light from iTunes onto my new (for Christmas) iPod Touch.  Beautiful, inspiring way to start the year!

it's 10 times better with the "Voices of Light".  You have to find a copy with the music.

I'm sure I can order it from Ignatius Press. The copy I have is a bootleg almost 20 years old. Nice Catholic girl, me.. Joan would be proud.  :-[

Anyway, my version is totally silent which is the way the Dreyer originally wanted it in the theaters. No musical score, no organ accompaniment. But reviewers now are saying that it's fortunate that Dreyer's opinion didn’t deter Richard Einhorn from creating his "Voices of Light." Here's a good piece about the movie for anyone interested.

Oh and a little trivia. Joan of Arc's birthday was yesterday, January 6th.

Same as mine.  :)

So the Voice of Light is separate? Netflix just sends the DVD and you have to have VoL from another source?

HEY I love old silent films. :bronxcheer: Seriously though If you want a good film try the Cecil B Demille 1927 version of The King of Kings its a very good version of the last month or so of Christs life.
