Pastor Melissa Scott.com - WoundedHealer - 04-23-2010 Has anyone had the opportunity to catch her message? I happened to wake early one morning and she happened to be on the Television. I liked what she was saying. So I wound up copying down her Web address. Anyway as I goggled the address a "ton" of nonsense came about her. Don't know if its all just rumors or part truth. At any rate I felt her message to be very interesting. Especially since she had the ability to translate the Bible in its original text into Engish. Thus she would elaborate in depth about the actual meanings and what she felt was briefly touched upon by the King James version. Aside from the translation aspect. her message in itself I felt to be quite interesting. I don't believe in coincidence, thus I felt strongly that she happened to be on when I woke. Especially since my actual interest today is in correct Translation. Really caught me off guard. But then I shouldn't be so surprized of the workings of God, Jesus and the Blessed Mother. The continue to Amaze Me. This aspect of the message in is Great Need. And their is much to little happening. Also I was asked for nothing, no donations, no Rosarys or any other relgious material for sale on the TV Show. Which is another aspect which caught my attention. ;D Is anyone familiar and what are your thoughts? Re: Pastor Melissa Scott.com - calicatholic - 04-23-2010 Oh boy, let me be the first to answer... I've seen her on TV with her big white board and translations. The problem is, she not only translates, but she interprets what she translates. There may be many things she interprets in the Bible the same as the Catholic Church, but as she's not Catholic, clearly there are things she's interpreting differently, or she would realize it and become Catholic. It would be dangerous to your understanding of the Faith to listen to her message, not knowing which parts are translated and interpreted correctly. The Catholic Church is the only reliable source for proper interpretation of the Bible. There must be a Catholic source of intense translation of the Bible that someone can point you toward, but I would recommend avoiding Melissa Scott, especially if you don't believe there's a danger there. Calicatholic Re: Pastor Melissa Scott.com - Anastasia - 04-23-2010 I have a secret for you: a class at your local university's classics department can give you the amazing ability to translate the Bible in its original text! Yes, it's St. Jerome's Vulgate. The literal English translation of that is the Douay-Rheims. I found this commentary which makes sense to me. I know a tad of Greek; I'll have to catch her sometime and see if what this guy says makes sense: Quote:Well, I have a number of problems with Melissa Scott ... firstly, she has absolutely no formal training or credentials in theology or linguistics (both fields in which she professes to be an expert). Her late husband (Dr. Gene Scott) was somewhat of a cook too, but at least he had a Ph.D ... even though it was in the 'Philosophy of Education'. She has no more than a high school diploma ... while that doesn't necessarily mean she can't know anything it certainly is doubtful she could master ancient Greek and Aramiac through self study. Myself, I am a Doctor of History with a professorship at the University Copenhagen (Denmark), and I can tell you that while her translations are somewhat accurate they also have many blatantly amatuerish errors and reek of naivete. Re: Pastor Melissa Scott.com - SoCalLocal - 04-29-2010 No I hadn't heard of her until minutes ago, but all of the sudden, it makes sense. "Her late husband (Dr. Gene Scott)" Him, I know of. He used to be on UHF TV 24/7, ranting and glaring at the camera, wearing a pith helmet and two pairs of sunglasses, smoking cigars while haranging for money, all sorts of weird behavior. One time he gave a talk about how some book in the Bible had the exact number of words that there are steps in the Great Pyramid in Giza, and how it pointed out something else. All very conspiracy-theory sounding. But he was always fun to watch and made sense when I was drunk. Re: Pastor Melissa Scott.com - DesperatelySeeking - 05-01-2010 Doesn't the name "Pastor Melissa" tip you off right up front? LOL Let's see...a woman wearing a priest-like collar with globs of make up? Besides, she breaks down each verse word for world and explains it from the Greek perspective except for one thing....The Apostles were Jewish. It should be taught from a Jewish perspective in the first century regardless of what language it was written in. It's the mindset of the writer at the time that the scripture was written that we should look for, not the grammatical break-down. Given the wealth of resources available to us, why in the world would I spend time listening to a Protestant woman "pastor"? Goodbye. :hello!: :owl: Re: Pastor Melissa Scott.com - DarkKnight - 05-05-2010 (04-29-2010, 12:41 AM)SoCalLocal Wrote: No I hadn't heard of her until minutes ago, but all of the sudden, it makes sense. His attorney did the time for it because he was barred from ratting on his stinking client. Aaahhh, (deep cleansing breath required).
