Thanks! The city's name comes from the translation of a Blackfoot term referring to the headdress worn by their medicine men.  Most people just call it "the Hat", though.

Western Canada has some interesting city names.

I live in Moose Jaw, for example. :) Some little towns near Moose Jaw include Elbow, Eyebrow, and Drinkwater.

To me, Medicine Hat is huge! (61,000 people). My friend and I once got lost for 45 minutes in Med Hat... I just know how to get to church and get back out  :)

My town is named after the word "tabernacle", by the way. There's a nearby town named "Elcan" (-nacle, backwards)

Wow... I've lived in a town that size before...you should have seen the church there!  It's smaller than the church in your home town!!
