Madrid: best churches/religious sites? - ophelia - 09-22-2011

Hi, guys. Long time no see. :D I hope this is the right place for my question to you all.

I am going to be passing through Madrid for a few days this December. What are the best places for Mass and prayer (are there any Trid Masses there?) and the best churches/cathedrals for sightseeing?

I'd be grateful for any other advice you have about this city at all, too!

Have a great weekend!
Ophelia

Some good museums and galleries, but Madrid is pretty boring. If you have time, drive 45 minutes out of town and visit El Escorial. Bonus points if you make it to the Valle de los Caídos, though I think it's quite hard to get into now.

Go visit the Prado museum.

Also just wonder around.

And definitely give yourself a day or so to see Segovia. Giant Roman aquaducts, castles, cathedrals (okay, so only one of each, how many do you want?), the best roast piglet in the world, and only an hour or so by train from Madrid. You'll be glad you went.

And Avila. Just google it on google images, and you'll know why.
