Phoenix Bishop Thomas Olmsted: Defy feds on birth control - dcmaccabees - 01-29-2012

Quote:Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted of Phoenix has become one of the first Roman Catholic bishops in the nation to openly defy the Obama administration over new rules forcing employers to include access to contraceptives and sterilization procedures in health-insurance coverage.

Every Mass said today in the Diocese had this letter read. As our priest (Fr Salgado, FSSP) said today, "Now THAT'S how a bishop is supposed to act!"

It sure is encouraging.

Especially in that it *seems* the bishops are unanimous in being obstinate against these proposed bc impositions. And quick about it, too. I mean, they're being orthodox! Where'd they get a silly idea like that? :P

The Bishop here had a letter read in each pulpit in the diocese as well.

I have never seen the bishops act this way before.

Maybe the tide is finally turning.

Maybe God allowed Obama to become President to allow the greater good of the Catholic Bishops getting their proverbial balls back.

I sure hope so, PTR. That's a good thought.

the line is definitely being drawn in the sand. The US Bishops are leaving no room for compromise on this issue, as it should be. Either the government outlaws our hospitals and other organizations, or they back down.

Why haven't the traditionalist bishops said anything, yet? Isn't that kind of weird?

We had quite the sermon today on the topic.

The recommendation was an extra day of fast each week.

Whether it be a hard fast, one meal a day.

Or the so-called workingman's fast which means 3 lighter meals and no in between snacks.

Along with increased prayer.

Our priests are pretty well convinced that Martyrdom is not far off.

Ha! Good point, I haven't seen the Kyrie Eleison comments even mention this. Sounds like trad bishops are going Michael Voris on us.
