Our Lord in the Attic - DoktorDespot - 03-06-2013

Today I learned about a 17th century house Church in Amsterdam, used by Catholics when they were prohibited from engaging in public worship. Even if you are not a fan of Baroque, I'm sure you will appreciate the beauty of the Church given the circumstances. Perhaps it can also be an inspiration for us as we face a society that is increasingly hostile to the faith

I've heard of those places in the Netherlands. The Dutch were more tolerant than other places.

Yes, I think that perhaps Catholic worship was not tolerated in public, but that they were not actively hunted down and persecuted as they were in England. Obviously this clandestine Church is pretty elaborate (there is even an organ!) so people must have known it was there.

Wow, thanks for sharing that. How I would love to have a little chapel in my own home. Though I realized how hard the times were for these people,. to have Our Lord so close like that always would really be something.
