You must commit THIS line to memory! Vatican officially explains Francis' conduc - Allan - 03-29-2013

From the official statement of the Holy See as released by Fr. Lombardi, SJ:

“That the Holy Father, Francis, washed the feet of young men and women on his first Holy Thursday as Pope, should call our minds and hearts to the simple and spontaneous gesture of love, affection, forgiveness and mercy of the Bishop of Rome, more than to legalistic, liturgical or canonical discussions.

Ok, ready now? Let's practice:

Q. Bp. Fellay, how do you justify the Society's priests exercising priestly faculties when they are suspended by operation of canon law?

A. Well, you see, our Priests' conferral of the sacraments during this Holy season should call our minds and hearts to the simple and spontaneous gesture of love, affection, forgiveness and mercy of the Church, more than to legalistic, liturgical or canonical discussions.

Oh yea...this is gonna be fun..... See, we can think and speak like liberals too! It's FEELINGS and sentiment that matter, not silly laws and stuff.  Hey, the Pope...sorry, Bishop of Rome, says so!  So it's OK!  Right?

This goose and gander stuff is awesome....

I guess it might be "spontaneous", but if it is, this is a guy with a martyrdom-wish! A spontaneous Pope with a love for the poor etc will be killed by someone soon. I don't say that cynically, just a fact.

For the moment, this pope does not seem to have the slightest inclination to address any canonical laws about anything. Therefore, for those who find that obedience to canonical and parish and diocesan rules hinder the advance of Catholicism, this is good news. Sad, but there is a good side to everything. I say run with it. If there were trads out there with serious money, they should be buying every on-sale church in every city they can find; and they should start publicizing their presence more. And yes, get into large initiatives in support of the poor. And get the pope to visit one of these places while on a visit to some country. He is a spontaneous, on the spot guy.

Exactly...let's keep playing:

Q Cardinal Burke, as Chief Canonist of the apostolic signatura, why did you retroactively revoke all annulments issues by any Diocese in the last 50 years?

A. Well look, I was moved to make a grand gesture in support of human love and marriage, and I think that should be the focus here more than legalistic, liturgical or canonical discussions.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

The new version you linked still has the same line the OP listed.

I wish I was angry enough to kick something or cry, but I'm just depressed right now.

"No one can disturb the man who minds nothing, seeks nothing, relishes nothing but God."  Meister Eckhart

"Let nothing disturb thee; Let nothing dismay thee; All thing pass; God never changes Patience attains All that it strives for. He who has God finds he lacks nothing: God alone suffices." St. Teresa of Avila

What is happening is despicable, distasteful and confusing but our hearts should not be moved by these things or these men, our faith and hope is rooted in Christ, not His Vicar.

'The Captain says there's turbulence ahead. Please fasten your seatbelts.' Buckle up people, it's going to be a rough Papacy for Catholics!
