Little Little Flowers - VoxClamantis - 10-07-2014

Via Fr. Z's blog come these pictures. Bishop Conley of Lincoln, Nebraska offered Mass on the feast of St. Therese for the St Teresa School and Parish. The little girls of the school dressed up like Ste. Therese of Lisieux. Here are a few pics :)

That is how Halloween should be done.

Cute little nuns (in the future, perhaps) for God.

Yeah I was about to say. Over the past several years I've come to really dislike Halloween.

Re: Little Little Flowers - VoxClamantis - 10-07-2014

I disagree with the Hallowe'en comments. Halloween should focus on the reality of death, evil and Hell, should revel in the knowledge that Christ has conquered Satan, should mock Satan and all his foolish demons, should see adults stressing to kids the sacramentals and prayers such as that to St. Michael, should be scary in a light-hearted, fun, non-macabre-but-creepy way. There should be jack-o'-lanterns, trick-or-treating, scary stories, bobbing for apples, bonfires, and all manner of the stuff most American kids look back on fondly if they didn't grow up in homes informed by Jack Chick tracts. My take is here.

Crisis Magazine also has an article that takes my POV on it all:  http://www.crisismagazine.com/2014/harlots-homicidal-maniacs-kids-halloween

And here's an article on all this, by the same writer, from last year:  http://www.crisismagazine.com/2013/all-hallows-eve-or-halloween

I agree with Vox on Halloween. Keep it separate from All Saints Day and All Souls Day. Dressing children in saint's costumes is a cute idea for All Saints Day. And those little "little flowers" are absolutely adorable!

The baby in the last photo is certainly adorable!

Re: Little Little Flowers - Philomena01 - 10-08-2014

Our parish has a group for young girls called Little Sisters of St. Teresa.

Here is a description of the program:

It gives girls, minimum age 6, the opportunity to dress as nuns and learn about the lives of sisters.  They take part in Mass, common prayers, meals, and creative activities to learn of some of the joys of religious life.

I think that it is wonderful, it lets little girls see that being a nun is something to aspire to, that it can be a happy, fulfilling vocation.  So cute after mass to see all the little girls running around in their habits.

This is a good way for the parish to promote vocations to the religious life for girls  :) I do hope there is a boy version of that program.
