My Catholic Faith - Poche - 09-27-2015

Wahlberg credited his Catholic faith and a parish priest for turning him around after a rough upbringing in Boston that included cocaine addiction and a series of racially motivated attacks as a teenager.

"I attribute all of my success to my Catholic faith," he told the crowd. "My faith has given me the ability to be a good father, a good husband and most importantly a good person."

Wahlberg rejects Church teaching on marriage, i.e. he's pro 'same-sex marriage'.
How can you attribute success to Catholic faith you do not have?

Worldly success will be nothing after time has ended. Holiness is all that matters. That means knowing how desperately we need God's mercy. That takes profound humility, and one easy practice that will help us grow in humility is to embrace completely the Church's teachings.

Well, I wouldn't put all the blame on Wahlberg, given the kind of message that the Church is putting out these days.

So if I deny a suuuper-obvious Church teaching, I'm less culpable because of bad Churchmen?

Re: My Catholic Faith - salus - 09-27-2015

HaHaHa!!!!  Three teachings everybody knows the Catholic Church is against are contraception, abortion and homosexual activity, Wahlberg likes his career (which would be destroyed) more than Jesus's teachings

I have a rule to not take what celebrities say about their religious beliefs too seriously. Actually, I take Kirk Cameron seriously (and his sister) despite their Protestantism. But at least they are consistent about it.

In Hollywood, it is too controversial for people to say they are against homosexual "marriage," abortion, contraception, etc. Of course everyone's got to make a living, but most place their fame over faith.

This is a great rule. Celebrities are pretty fickle, and I truly don't understand why they are taken as models or why we should listen to them (I liked what Fr Z wrote the other day--we should take Stephen Colbert's theological views like we should respect the authority of Kim Kardashian).

CINOs are a dime a dozen. Why does anyone pay any attention to them, or post their vain blatherings to Catholic forums?
