Anyone care to comment on what's happening to the Church in Australia? - Pacman - 05-18-2017

I've been reading on the ABC News (that's the Australian Broadcasting Company) that police in NSW are looking into possible charges against Cardinal Pell for abuse allegations from the 1970s. I honestly cannot believe that Cardinal Pell could have had any personal involvement in any acts of abuse against children and am inclined to believe that this is a media witch hunt. But I'm not sure what's really going on. Pell really botched his 2016 interview via Rome with the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Abuse, from a public relations perspective at least, and even conservative Australian columnist Andrew Bolt stopped defending him from that point. I honestly don't know what to believe. I know the sex abuse crisis was a real thing and in the JPII-era a lot of bishops were criminally negligent in their management of allegations. But OTOH I know there is this Satanic Jewish media machine which wants to do absolutely everything it can to wreck the image of the Catholic Church in the hearts and minds of ordinary people. Side note: The ABC (Australian) is a notoriously leftwing public broadcaster modelled on the BBC).

After 40 years, two people come forward?. He has been a cardinal for more than ten years, a bishop for even longer, and the clerical sex abuse scandal has been in the news long enough that most should understand that if someone did something wrong, someone out there will listen now, and would have listened ten years ago too. How can it be proven?  Why bring it up now?  Because Francis, the "people's pope," is in power?

Yeah, my gut tells me this is political. Pell is one of the few conservative Cardinals left. He has very powerful enemies.
