I don't know much Cardinal Becciu.  Is he your typical NO type or something a little more conservative?

I think he was made a cardinal by Pope Francis, so I doubt he is conservative.

Looks like you're correct.  He's only been a cardinal for a little over two years: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giovanni_Angelo_Becciu

However, he was made a Bishop and appointed 'Sosituto' (usually considered the third most powerful man in the Vatican after the Pope and the Secretary of State) by Benedict. Here's an article from 1P5 with some details, including a tweet from Catholic Sat;

Quote:It now becomes clear why the Pope moved tonight to remove Cardinal Becciu, ahead of L'Espresso publishing an expose of the how Becciu diverted Peter's Pence money to speculative funds managed by his brother, and to a company where another brother is a majority shareholde'

Cardinal Pell will be pleased after all the trouble Becciu caused him over trying to investigate where the money was going.

If the allegations against Becciu are true (and I'm guessing they are), I think we know why he caused Cardinal Pell so much trouble.

I understand he told one person who was hired to audit the Vatican finances to not look at the money. I have been auditing for more than 30 years. The last time someone said that to me it turned out that he was a thief.

Seems like this would indeed be a huge red flag since finances involve, you know, money.

So Becciu is not only a slimy thief, he's also such a dense idiot that if he said this and thought the auditor wouldn't catch on, then he is truly a moron.  Good thing, one less brainless fool with cardinal powers.

Now it turns out he also transferred $800,000 to Australia. When we find out what that was used for I expect he will be in more trouble.

Becciu seems very corrupt.  I wonder if we'll ever hear who that $800,000 went to, or if it'll be buried by whatever corrupt authorities might have received it?

For those interested, here is an article that discusses the $800,000 transfer.  What a sordid, disgraceful affair.
