The election of Cardinal Siri in 1958

I doubt this.
Cardinals can refuse the election? ???  I'm taking this with a grain of salt for now, but if nothing else, it had some interesting shots from the conclave.

Does anyone know what interview the clips of Fr Martin were taken from?  I'd love to hear the whole thing.
Nevermind, CBC tells me they can!

"Q: Can a pope refuse his election?
A: Technically, yes, although it has been centuries since any cardinal has done so. In 1271, St. Philip Benizi fled the conclave and hid until another man was elected. St. Charles Borromeo declined election in the 16th century, and Cardinal Robert Bellarmine did the same in the 17th century."

Great source, I know ;)

How the Catholic Church Was Hijacked

Quote:Cardinal Giuseppe Siri, left, was duly elected Pope in 1958 and took the name Gregory XVII. However he was forced to step aside in a coup d'etat.

Popes John XXIII and Paul VI "were not simply "bad popes". They were enemy agents who set the Church on a carefully designed plan to destruction."

by Thomas Carter

There was coup d'etat in the Catholic Church on October 26th, 1958 and the Church has been governed by impostors since that time.

Is this really that important? In my opinion it is. The Catholic Church is the largest and oldest institution on earth, with roughly a billion nominal members, roughly 3 times the population of the United States.

Since 1958 however, despite the numbers, the institution has been largely ineffective in combating the social ills they had so effectively handled for centuries.

Abortion, pornography, divorce, obscenity all became prominent after the papal chair was usurped in 1958. To demonstrate the power of the Church before this, look at the time when Pius XII excommunicated President Peron of Argentina in 1955 when he tried to contradict the constitution and allow divorce.

As a result of the excommunication, the populace of Argentina rose up and Peron was removed from office and Catholic teaching was upheld.  Who would have thought that 50 years later Argentina would be legalizing "gay marriage."

Also, for those familiar with Catholicism you may know that the original Mass, which can be traced back to the 4th century (but could very well be apostolic in origin), was abandoned in 1969 to make way for a "new mass," a ceremony that bears little resemblance to the traditional Mass.

Again, who would want to destroy the sacred rite but an enemy agent masquerading as Pope.
You should be very careful in trusting a non-Catholic website run by a non-Catholic, especially concerning something of most extreme importance such as the state of the Church.

Either Siri was elected, or the one man in charge of giving the proper smoke signal was a fool. You be the judge. I tilt toward the former opinion. White smoke is white smoke, even if the image and video was posted on

Other than that, I do agree that these sites should be diligently examined, though not always immediately thrown out.
Even if he was elected, he legally refused it and never denied refusing it, so it's meaningless.

St. Pius V refused the throne at first, but relented after people begged him to fix the Church.  Not many people want what is probably the toughest and most responsibility filled job in the world.  I wouldn't.
Even if this is true, it doesn't prove anything. It certainly isn't favorable to the sedes.

This basically says that Siri was elected and he turned it down. So what? If a pope can step down, a man can certainly refuse to accept the office. So Siri turned down the papacy, for whatever reason, and Roncalli accepted it. So Roncalli became pope. We all know that.

Aw, Quis beat me to it. Heck, I'll post it anyway.

ADDED: Isn't that one of the Diamond bro's voice? Fetchez la vache! Run away!!
I think the Popes refusing to obey Our Lady of Fatima's request to reveal the 3rd Secret  in 1960 was more detrimental than the "alleged" ELECTION OF cARDINAL sIRI.
