Pope Benedict XV 1914-1922
I believe Giacomo Paolo Giovanni Battista della Chiesa was one of the great forgotten Popes of the 2nd millenium. For starters, no individual tried harder to bring the ghastly First World War to an end, in addition to which he spearheaded efforts to exchange prisoners, as well as bodies of those killed, while helping to provide food for starving people in numerous countries. He also canonized Joan of Arc.
