Our Son's Behavior at Mass
My oldest could be pacified for quite a while with an orange tic tac. The younger one not so much.
Your son is still pretty young to get through an entire Mass without getting a little wormy. Step out if you need to but don't let it be play time in the narthex. Always reinforce good behavior and make a bit of a fuss over it. It's also not bad for him to know when he's not meeting your expectations. Just remember he's not a miniature 10 year old, so those expectations have to be adjusted. It gets better as you figure out what works for him.
I've sat in a few Masses where I was tempted to have a screeching meltdown myself.

"It will never be known what acts of cowardice have been committed for fear of not looking sufficiently progressive.”
Charles Peguy
