Did you know that poor Lebanon has been shut down power-wise for the last few days? This could be in America and Canada what we may be facing this Winter.

Invest in a wood burning stove if you can. They can be expensive up front, but burning wood is cheap and can be quite plentiful in certain parts of the country. You can use the stove to cook as well as to heat your home.
Also invest in plenty of candles and some kerosene lamps. You can still buy the wicks for the older hurricane-style lamps in stores or online. Even the camping section of Wal-Mart has them.

No canldes and kerosene lamps. They are dangerous. Get battery powered lamps or flashlights (torches, for you Brits).
