They often are, but often aren't.  I'd especially guess a huge percentage of those who believe in Hell also believe in Heaven.

Perhaps not a huge percentage but still a significant percentage of those who believe in Heaven would also believe in Hell if they are traditional Catholics or Orthodox, believing traditional Protestants, Muslims, etc.

The excerpt you posted (that's all I read) seems to ignore this ... not sure what value any analysis could have that ignores this.

It makes sense to me that if you believe that everyone that dies goes to heaven, like many in the new age religions do, than it doesn't matter what sins you commit, but if you believe that there is also the possibility of going to hell like traditional Catholics do, than of course you are going to be much more cautious.

What you wrote makes sense, but what the excerpt discusses is very different.  It discusses a world where we can test two groups of people, "people who believe in Heaven" and "people who believe in Hell", as if these weren't highly overlapping categories.

They did not, but probably should have, talked about people who believe *they* will certainly go to Heaven vs. people who believe *they* may go to Hell.  At least in the excerpt you posted that I read.
