Good book on history of the Church...recommendations?

He's partial to the Novus Ordo, and his politics definitely lean neocon, but I did enjoy Harry Crocker's *Triumph: the Power and the Glory of the Catholic Church.* It came out about ten years ago.

I highly recommend Warren Carroll's series of books on Church History. I don't think you can beat them!!!

I really liked the volume on "The Cleaving of Christendom" about the protestant revolt.

I used these also for information when I was taking a Church history course for my master's.

I also have read Harry Crocker's book for a one volume but if you really want to dig in, get Warren Carroll's books.

I agree, this book at the time helped me really understand there is and only can be one church desended from Jesus. And it showed the good the bad and the ugly of the church too!

This is a great recommendation. I have his book, The Church in the Dark Ages. It is quite a work.

Yes, I loved the part about St. Augustine and how accessible  he was to people, and how he always accounted for any money he spent.
An example for all bishops.

I recommend Henri Daniel Rops books  if you can find them. Mostly out of print though I think. He was very Catholic and wasn't afraid to say so.
He made the history come alive, not dry as dust like some. It was a set, "History of the Church of Christ", still some used copies around at reasonable prices:

Don't think a series is an option. Leaning Laux. The Crocker book looks good too. Does the novus ordoness or neo-conservatism of the author come out in the book at all?
