Pope Francis wanted Marini for the CDW but Benedict said no

A liberal liturgist at the Pray Tell Blog is claiming Pope Francis' true choice for the CDW was Piero Marini but that Pope Benedict objected and Francis acceded to his wishes out of respect

"After Pope Francis’ election, rumors abounded that Francis would make Piero Marini the head of the CDW. Traditionalists were concerned and progressives were practically giddy. Traditionalists said it was a long shot, but apparently the rumors were spot on.
From the Rome desk, covered by Fr. Anthony who is on sabbatical there for a month:
I have learned that Pope Francis had pretty much decided to appoint Piero Marini to the CDW post. But this was opposed by the very highest levels of the previous administration, and Francis relented out of respect for his predecessor."

Well. If that's true, then maybe we do need to worry about what will happen when Benedict dies. Then again, Francis said he doesn't plan to be pope very long, so maybe he and Benedict will be eating pizza together before anything drastic happens.

Again, that is not what he said.
He said that he doesn't mind being pope, and he has convinced himself that he will only be a pope for a short time so that he can be pleasantly surprised when he stays for longer.

If he was a favorite of Pope Francis as these rumors say then Marini would have already been given a high position.
