I've found a recipe and have decided to make Italian Ice at home next week. Has anybody out there ever tried this? Any tips?

I wasn't asking if anyone had used the specific recipe, just if anyone here had tried making it before. There's really only one recipe - water, sugar, flavor. I'm more interested in technique, like if anyone's grandmother or aunt or someone used to make it without special equipment.

Magnificat - I've done it before with a coffee ice - the trick is that you have to keep taking it out of the freezer and scraping it with a fork.
That gives it a snowy texture - otherwise, you end up with a sticky block of ice. The larger and flatter the pan, the better.
