I've partied with some cool Mexicans. And my old Trad parish had Traditionalist illegals. So I recognize that there are a lot of good people down there, especially the Trads. And if we had no socialism, and no welfare, and no public schools, then those good people would be the ones to come to America and it would be a blessing. But that ain't the way it is.
And the Novus Ordo in Mexico is far worse than in the USA if you can believe it. Don't really know much about the N.O. in Europe. I imagine it is really bad too.
There was a time when Mexico had a more solid currency than the US dollar, and there were almost no illegals. The period of long peace between Benito Juarez' death and the revolution was probably the most stable Mexico has ever been, although Mexico is a country that has ALWAYS been dominated by Masons; be they right wing or left wing.

Thats just my view from across the pond. My few dealings with Irishmen they all were weekly Church goers (even the 20 something gamer types).

So are these images of Mexican Catholics as debauched and/or pagan based on stereotypes or based on experience? If it's based on stereotypes, you know what to do and when to do it - the Irish and Italians Christianized the public discourse of America, why do you doubt that Mexicans will do the same? And if it's based on experience, what do you think of the predominantly Mexican parishes you've been to? Of the piety and devotion of the people who worship in them?

Mexico is a mixed bag. There are still devout Catholics and hard core Trads there. The N.O. parishes are charismatic cesspools. When referring to the pagan culture, that is in reference to the drug wars. The real problem is the socialist mindset. That is why it is dangerous to bring them in to the country.
True story. My business partner and I were talking one day and we predicted that when we see Mexicans protesting in the streets banging on pots and pans, the end is near. Sure enough, a few months later, there was some sort of illegal immigrant protest in California, and they were banging on pots and pans.
What does that remind you of??? A three year old whining to get something from Mommy. That is the diseased socialist mindset of the Mexicans. Whine for the government to wipe your @$$.
It is a strange dichotomy. On one hand you have the self reliant Mexican, who wants to better himself, who has to have a lot of gumption to leave his home, go over the boarder, and get a job. These tend to be the quieter, and often times more religious ones. Who can't admire them for this? On the other hand, you got Mexicans marching down the street banging on a pot because California is considering cutting off some government hand out or other.

I'm not comfortable associating an entire culture with its worst elements. Are Americans all cowardly materialistic hyper-sexed latte-sipping intellectuals without any sense of decency?

#1 Latin-Americans are not the only illegal immigrants although they do make up the highest portion and are certainly the highest profile.
I have no issue with feeding or clothing those in need via charity, whether they are legally in this country or not. I am not going to turn a family away from a soup kitchen or even an ER (for acute illness or trauma) because they aren't US citizens. That said, limiting immigration is just. A country, including the US, has limited resources and has the right to limit the use of its resources to it's citizens. Someone who hops the border is coming her illegally, breaking a just law and I don't believe the "Catholic" thing to do is assist people in breaking just laws. Every other industrialized nation has immigration law, they deport people who stay illegally, why is the US supposed to have an open border but France, England, Italy, Switzerland, Australia etc..... are free to send folks home at will.
For goodness sake Mexico is pretty dang strict about people coming in to THEIR country.

What part of "mixed bag" didn't you read?
And stop using the word comfortable. Say, I don't like, I am against, or something else. What does culture have to do with your comfort? Resist the borg.
