If wearing a veil bothers you that much, I suggest that you wear it anyway, just to overcome the annoyance, and offer it up for a good intention.
The veil can be seen as symbolizing submission to the order established by God, and in this context, why not wear it?...... In reality, it is just a trifle and does not take away from any other initiative for good works.
Quite frankly, the witness value of wearing a veil and submitting oneself to the order ordained by God, speaks more loudly than doing the readings at mass or doing some other para-liturgical duty.
Regarding one of your questions,
"Yes" actually I believe that the TLM is almost all scripture, as opposed to the NO which was updated by incorporating other sources.
