backyard chickens, anyone?
#21
Being of Puerto Rican descent I grew up with a coop in our backyard.  Of course the majority of our chickens were fighting cocks, because my father is endeared to the sport.  He always kept the roosters in separate cages and let the hens and chicks roam free.  Since my father was there main food source they never strayed far from his small yard. (1/4 acre)  From my experience chickens are very self reliant and hardly need any maintenance except of course rounding them up to go back to their coop at the end of the day.  There was always a stray dog that picked off quite a few of the chickens when they got caught but most of the time they would fly to safety in the peach tree next to the garage.  Great topic!
