Book on the High Middle Ages

Thank you everyone for all of those recommendations!  They all sound like great books.  I'll see if we can get that "Illustrated History" through interlibrary loan, to start.  Regine Pernoud sounds very good, too.  In the meantime, I'll dust off my copy of the Canterbury Tales.  It would be fun to read those together, anyway, especially since Ryan's never had to read Chaucer before!
