I'm currently en route to Washington, D.C. Does anyone want to join up on Friday-Sunday? And what places of Catholic significance are there to see, besides the National Shrine?

Isn't there a Franciscan Monastery in D.C.?  Didn't get to see that while I was up there last year, though.

Yes, I would see that.  It's right near the National Shrine.....

Also the John Paul II Cultural Center (in the same neighborhood).

Masses too

If you like scavenger hunts, you can swing by Georgetown University in Georgetown and see if you can spot a Jesuit wearing a Roman collar.

So what's your itinerary for our fair city? Anything cool?

I'm currently typing from my iPhone shotgun while my friend is driving. We're in the outskirts of NAshville, TN currently. I therefore can't type a full itinerary at the moment without going crazy, but I intend to visit Congress, the Supreme Court building, the National Archives, and hopefully as many sites of colonial and religious significance as possible. If you're around, PM me with a good number to join up for lunch or dinner or whatever. I might do a short video series while I'm here...

The Shrine itself is neat enough, but find the basement. That's where the cool crypt chapel is and the last papal crown.

Usually, dignataries are met at the White House. You didn't arrange a state visit, your highness?

I intend to go there on Sunday. However, the Basilica certainly doesn't have the last papal crown in existence; I've seen three other ones before. Maybe you meant the one last used by Paul VI?

It was a spontaneous trip, otherwise I would've definitely figured out a way to get into the Presidential Palace (as well as a tour of the Pentagon).

My plan so far for tomorrow (Saturday) is to visit Anderson House, the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, the Washington National Cathedral, and the National Gallery of Art. Dinner will be at an establishment called the Napoleon Bistro.

On Sunday, I'll visit the National Shrine, Franciscan Monastery, and St. Matthew Cathedral.
