Drei Augen....German for "three eyes", because these jelly-filled sugar-dusted cookies have three little holes that let the filling pop out a little.

DELICIOUS!!!

that's the problem with pizzeles...

they don't taste as nice as they look.

what's good is the turrones.

... man.

I don't know who came up with them first - the Italians, or the Spaniards -but they're great.

Sister, it ain't Christmas without torrones.  I'd better be able to get them here in GA, or I'm moving back to New England.

I can hook you up.

If not, cubanfoodmarket.com should have everything you need, and more.

Hey!

That's La Tienda up in Williamsburg ...La Espanola Meats in CA is really good too, and you can get pretty good domestic knock offs.

The Italians.  The nougat candy was invented in the 1500's for some noblewoman's wedding, and sculpted into the shape of a local tower or "torrione" that the family owned.

"Torrione" over time became "torrone".

This brand is the best: http://www.ferraracafe.com/about/Torrone.php

Mrs. WRC just made a batch of peanut-butter-M&M cookies.  It's like Christmas came early.  :)
