Our Lady of Akita
I was just reading up on this and some of the messages our pretty creepy.

"The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see Cardinals opposing Cardinals Bishops opposing Bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned by their fellow Priests. Churches and alters will be sacked, the Church will be full of those that except compromise and the demon will press many Priests and those consecrated souls to leave the service of the lord."

This was approved by the Church in 1988. I cant believe they would actually approve a warning that seemed to condemn the Spirit of Vatican II"s aftermath.
If memory serves, the former Cardinal Ratzinger said that the Third Secret of Fatima was contained in the message of Akita, which also spoke of a chastisement and fire falling from the sky, a punishment, "worse than the Deluge."
It was approved in 1988, but when did the actual apparitions take place?

"In 1973, the Blessed Virgin Mary gave Sister Agnes Katsuko Sasagawa in Akita, Japan three messages through a statute of Mary. Bathed in a brilliant light, the statute became alive and spoke with a voice of indescribable beauty. Her Guardian Angel also appeared and taught her to pray. The wooden statute from which the voice came wept 101 times over a course of several years. It also perspired abundantly and the perspiration sent out a sweet perfume. Its right palm bled from a wound having the form of a cross. Hundreds of people witnessed many of these events. Scientific analysis of blood and tears from the statute provided by Professor Sagisaka of the faculty of Legal Medicine of the University of Akita confirmed that the blood, tears, and perspiration are real human tears, sweat, and blood. They come from three blood groups: O, B, and AB. Sister Agnes also has stigmata on the right palm. A Korean woman with terminal brain cancer received immediate healing while praying before the statute in 1981. The miracle was confirmed by Dr. Tong-Woo-Kim of the St. Paul Hospital in Seoul and Fr. Theisen, President of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Seoul. The second miracle was the complete cure of total deafness of Sister Agnes.

April, 1984 - Most Rev. John Shojiro Ito, Bishop of Niigata, Japan, after years of extensive investigation, declares the events of Akita, Japan, to be of supernatural origin, and authorises throughout the entire diocese the veneration of the Holy Mother of Akita. He said: "The message of Akita is the message of Fatima."

June, 1988 - Vatican City - Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Prefect, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, gives definitive judgement on the Akita events and messages as reliable and worthy of belief."
The actual apparitions at Akita took place in 1973. Then Cardinal Ratzinger did indeed say that "the message of Fatima and Akita are essentially the same".

If you remember, in the vision of the Third Secret that the Vatican released in 2000 (nevermind the bogus commentary) it mentions "an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendour that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: ‘Penance, Penance, Penance!’."

Yep thats there too. All pretty scary stuff.

Third and the Last message on October 13, 1973:

". . . if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by my Son. Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and the priests."

This the great chastisement prepared for the world before the triuph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  Sadly, many people alive today might actually live long enough to see this, especially the young,( I am in my 20's). It's going to be bad and it's going to hurt.
Could be part of the Third Secert of Fatima
Let him who has ears, hear.
Everybody can google "Howard Dee" together with "Akita".
Mr Dee was the former ambassador of the Philippines Republic to the Holy See. His words are worthy of belief.
He said that then Card. Ratzinger confided him that Akita's and Fatima's messages are (I quote) "essentially the same". Since Akita's messages are speaking of great divisions and struggles inside the Church and also of "fire falling from the sky" which nowhere are found in the already known messages of Fatima, one may speculate that the Card. Ratzinger so unwillingly unveiled the hidden part of the Fatima's Third Secret .
It is sad to see the reluctance from the Vatican hierarchy to acknowledge that Fatima is still ongoing. The double speech, double game, on that issue is apalling: Cardinal Ratzinger himself long after  his confidences to Mr H. Dee and his imprudent interview to the Italian magazine "Jesus" in 1984, dared to say during the year 2000's unveiling that "Fatima belongs to the past."
Why then to have supported Bishop Ito in his official statement about Akita's apparitions?
There are too much inconsistences in the Vatican 's stances and peculiarly those of our Holy Father. He doesn't look to say the truth. I dare to dream of a public interview of Benedict on the TV where journalists would be allowed to ask the sensitive questions on that matter in order to clear his contradictions. It is only a dream... Josef Ratzinger said too few or too much.
