Pelosi Says She's Told Catholic Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops They Must Tell Catholics Immigration Reform is a 'Manifestation of Our Living the Gospels'

(CNSNews.com) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she has told Catholic cardinals, archbishops and bishops that she wants them to speak from the pulpit for immigration reform and tell Catholics who oppose it that reform “is a manifestation of our living the gospels.”

In her comments at the Catholic Community Conference on Capitol Hill on May 6, Pelosi specifically referenced illegal immigrants in America, saying as a practical matter, “we can’t say to people, 12 million of you, ‘go back to wherever you came from or go to jail.’”

“I would hope that there’s one thing that we can do working together as we go forward that speaks to what the Bible tells us about the dignity and worth of every person -- and that is on the subject of immigration,” Pelosi said in her remarks. “Because I think the Church is going to have to play a very major role in how we, in how people are treated.”

“The cardinals, the archbishops, the bishops that come to me and say, ‘We want you to pass immigration reform,’” disclosed Pelosi. “And I say, ‘But I want you to speak about it from the pulpit.'

“I want you to instruct your, whatever the communication is -- the people, some of them, oppose immigration reform are sitting in those pews and you have to tell them that this is a ‘manifestation of our living the gospels,’” said Pelosi.

“Our patron saint of San Francisco, St. Francis of Assisi, he said, ‘preach the gospel --sometimes use words.’ We need the words to be said because it isn’t being picked up automatically.”

Pelosi, a Catholic and a Trinity College alumnus, said the estimated 12 million people currently living in America illegally cannot be told by society to go back to where they came from or “go to jail.”

“We have to respect that dignity and worth (of the indiciual), and recognize that the Church has an important role to play in that,” she said. “We don’t -- as a practical matter, we can’t say to people, 12 million of you, ‘go back to wherever you came from or go to jail.’”

“We can’t do that,” she said. “But the newcomers to America are really, again, important to the constant re-invigoration of America,  which is part of who we are and have always been unless we’re all Native American -- God Bless them. But most of the people here came from someplace else.”

Nancy, "Native Americans" also "came from someplace else."  They just did it a lot earlier than European settlers did.

And tell me, Nancy, if we must respect the dignity and worth of individuals who are in the country illegally, why don't we respect the dignity and worth of individuals before birth?

How dare you say that the Gospels support charity for immigrants who have broken laws while you also support legalized murder of unborn babies who are innocent of any wrong?  Do you think Jesus will ever excuse what you do?

There are times when I feel sorry for politicians. I mean, to go through life with your brain just totally switched off must be a very sad existence. But then I remember that they switch it off voluntarily, even gleefully, and I stop having that flicker of pity for them.

Looks like Nancy Lugosi is trying to get more illegals in the country to vote for Barry Buckwheat since his poll numbers are so low.

That's exactly the reason, or at least a big part of it. Libtards want the illegals here because of entitlements (whether they acknowledge that illegals receive entitlements or not). Illegals (and minorities, including white trash) become dependent on the entitlements that the libtards dish out, which makes them beholden to the libtards. If everyone worked hard and supported themselves, who would be left to vote for Buckwheat and his ilk?

This is what worries me. Even if the quasi more Conservative Republicans win the senate and house back this year if Barry gets all the illegal lettuce pickers in they'll vote for him because he legalized them and we could be stuck with 8 years of Barry Hussein.

Classic example of seperating social justice from every other issue in Catholic morality/ethics.  Personally and theoretically I believe free movement of people (no immigration laws) is the ideal.  Additionally, if there are jobs here that Mexicans (or anyone else) want to take, I say give the jobs to them.  The problem is the drain on our social(ist) gummint programs is not offset by contributions to the GDP.  I know I'm preaching to the choir, but I cannot help it.  Republicans aren't goin' to fix it either.  They just want cheap (slave) labor.  The Democrats want more gummint-dependent voters.  Economic collapse is the only thing that can fix this, and it's coming one way or another.

So now we have our first woman Holy Father. Pope Pelosi thinks she runs the Church now. Too bad we have spineless Bishops who will buy her crap hook line and sinker.

Unfortunately, too many of our clergy will be only too happy to jump on board the amnesty train, to make up for having to "oppose" their liberal friends on ObamaCare.

Open borders is not a solutuon. If a gov cannot defend its borders it loses a very important lynchpin in its legitimicy to govern.
Think things through. If the border with mexico is completetly open what will happen. Well considiering tenorth is at present a war zone what do u think will happen. Ideal is ideal. Reality is its an ugly fallen world. Act accordingly

The left, ever the propagandists have successfully changed the issue from "illegal aliens" to the down trodden "immigrant". If the Lord will not intervene and I see no indication he has, these people will continue to progress with their agenda. The only solution is a DK type of solution; armed resistance! I'm just thinking out loud, and not calling for war.
