I too struggle with judging when it's prudent to defend the Faith; I deal with it fairly often, as I'm surrounded by people who are not religious but have no scruples with uttering blasphemies. How do I defend the Faith without getting into an argument with five people all at once?

I used to live in a building where the manager (a woman) would often use the name of Our Lord for swearing.  When she did that, I would make the sign of the cross and say "Blessed be His Holy Name."  She would then apologize.  Gradually she stopped doing it--at least around me.

A woman in conflict!  Wow.  I have never seen such a person (know plenty that take the Lord's name in vain all the time, of course).  Such a habit is probably hard to break, and she was doing exactly the right thing, and I'm sure was therefore given the grace she needed to break the habit.

I say "Blessed be God" to myself whenever I hear a blasphemy.
