Since this thread has made a come back, I'll ask this question here.  Can you name one or more beers that fit the following criteria?
1.  At least reasonably available in most parts of the USA
2. Not owned by one of the huge conglomerates*
3. Not outrageously expensive (for my purposes I'll set $40((US)) as an approximate cutoff for 24, 12 oz bottles.)
4.  Of excellent quality (in your opinion)

* I know it can be hard to tell.  I was once suckered by the "Abbey Beer" ploy.  Turned out to be basically Budweiser in a monk's robe---for $38 a case!

Sam Adams is the best widely-available, American brewed beers in America.  There are other good brew houses, but they don't have the reach or the consistent across-the-board excellence of the Brewer-Patriot.

New Belgium Brewery would fit all those, I think.

1) Chimay in the Blue Label, made by Trappist Monks.

2) Stella Artois, the Bud of Belgium

3) Heinekein on tap in Amsterdam, never skunky like it is apt to be here across the pond

4) Bitter in London

5) Free
