Why do you say the state libs are the lesser of two evils?  Even back in Jeff Kennett's day they were a filthy, progressive party.  Kennett wanted euthanasia legalised, and was talking about trying to lure the gay mardi gras to Melbourne.  Given that Baillieu is anti-life, I can't see anything that differentiates them.  The only way I will be able to decide who to preference is if one of my local members is pro-life and the other is anti-life.  I've just moved so I don't even know which seat I'm in just yet.

i would guess that the Liberals (even Vic state) have more pro-life candidates, hence they'd be a preferable government.

also, even if one puts in a blank vote for the lower house, the same remains: one of the major parties gets in. whereas if one does put a vote (for example, for the DLP), then granted a major party gets gov, but also, you have helped build support for a decent minor party.

That's probably what I'll do, although, as bad as Brumby is - I fear that Baillieu will be worse.  I'm tempted to hope for the devil we know.  On the other hand, I also want to teach that smarmy bastard a lesson!

Anyway, it's nice to have a political discussion with someone who's neither apathetic nor an idiot.  That's quite a novelty for me.

How about that.  My local member is ALP and pro-life.  I can't find any information about the liberal member but he looks like a smarmy bastard so I think I'll be preferencing the ALP.  Probably the only time that will ever happen.  I'm not in a marginal seat so it won't make a difference anyway.

What seat is that specifically?

How did the pro-life march go and what was the squirmish that has been mentioned? How many marched for life through Melbourne?

Politicians are such a let down. Even Tony Abbot, who everyone paints as some ultra-conservative Catholic, stated on Q&A that while he's against gay marriage he could support civil unions for homosexuals. He's also stated there are no plans to ban abortion, just reduce those occurring. Lesser of two evils I guess.

Joe Hockey, another Catholic high up in the liberal party, says that he's personally against abortion but voted to allow women the "right" to abortion. They're all such hypocrites.

I can't recall the exact number, but it was way way way more than what the media said. The skirmish was simply the fact of blaspheming pro-abortionists being there for a counter protest, attempting to disrupt our talks (they failed, due to lack of numbers)

Reg civil unions, that's a real shame he said that. As for abortion, I think it's just not possible to ban it in current circumstances with the kind of politicians we have. So he is being realistic in a sense, that all that he could realistically accomplish is a more modest goal.

I wouldn't put abbott on the same level as hockey.
