Secret Recipe for Coke?

The balloons are a good idea.  Another thing to be aware of is that too much of the sulphur compound might have inhibited yeast growth as well, as might some of the ingredients in your soda.

Well, for the soda flavor I just used a bottle of the stuff they sell at the homebrew / winemaking store, so while it's possible, it's probably something else I did.  I'll try to be more careful with the sulphur as well.

Thanks!

Ahhh, OK.  You might want to try sanitizing your bottles with a bleach solution (I think 1 tsp per gallon of water is the norm; I'll check my books at home).  Alternatively, there are One Step cleansers available at home brew shops that you don't have to rinse.

Caution: Pure Caffeine in small doses can cause heart palpitations or hypertension. Use personal protective devices (gloves and mask) as necessary to prevent inhalation or absorption via the skin at highly concentrated amounts. If you purchase this product you are responsible for its safe use and handling. Ingestion of concentrated caffeine can lead to cardiac arrest and death.

Not too long ago some guy bought some off eBay and accidentally ODed on it.  Caffeine can be dangerous stuff.

As far as skin absorption, my chemistry was never that good, but lots of stuff can get absorbed through the skin.  I personally wouldn't worry mixing a batch of coke and using a measuring cup with it; if I handled it regularly, then I'd be concerned.
