Catholic bishops have kicked the "booty" out of the Bible.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has ordered up a new translation of the Bible, one it says is more accurate, more accessible and more poetic.
SURVEY: Do You Agree With The Changes In The New American Bible?
"Booty" will be replaced by the "spoils" of war when the newest edition of the New American Bible, the English-language Catholic Bible, comes out on Ash Wednesday, March 9.
Fifty scholars and translators, linguistics experts, theologians and five bishops spent 17 years on the project.
The New American Bible is used by U.S. bishops for prayer and study.
Other changes include:
The word "holocaust" has been replaced by "burnt offering"
Proverbs 31:10, the ode to "The Ideal Wife," is now a "Poem on the Woman of Worth." "Women will like this: being measured by their own accomplishments, not in terms of a husband's perspective," said Mary Elizabeth Sperry of the Bishops Conference.
Among the most controversial changes is in a passage many Christians believe foreshadows the coming of Christ and his birth to the Virgin Mary.
The 1970 version of Isaiah 7:14 said "the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel."
The 2011 text refers to "the young woman" instead. It elaborates that the original Hebrew word, "almah," may, or may not, signify a virgin.

So in addition to not offending Jooooooz we also have gotten rid of wife because that would offend feminists. The Newchurch is declaring that Mary is no longer a virgin and she is just a "young woman." So tell me this isn't a new religion.

Its not you just have to look at it through the hermeneutic of continuity and not the rupture of Change. Now go watch EWTN Maybe you can catch Fr Pacwa with his JPII action figure on his desk. ;D

I love this in the comments...

In this new version of the Bible:

Moses was an Israeli Arab. He went by the name Mo, and he sold cell phones wholesale.
Jesus was Black, and he instructed his followers to paint this fact on highway overpasses.
Jonah was Asian, and he hunted whales for a Japanese seafood concern.
Noah subcontracted his arc-building business to some Mexicans who were hanging out at the Home Depot by his house.

Edited to remove extreme blasphemy.

Of course!  We need to make the Novus Ordo appealing and more "traditional"...    ::)

Every day the Conciliar Church goes further and further down the rabbit hole...

Yeah I dont see why people even belong to it anymore. Its such a joke.

Why do you think they are leaving in droves?  I can't help but wonder how things would have been had my Grandparents put up more of a fight.

Two good points. At the local NO "Masses" around here 75% of people are over I'd say about 70. And I often wonder why my Grandparents generation rolled over so easy in the face of blatant heresy. My Grandparents just flat out stopped going to mass in 72 or 73.

It was also performed with a victim that was spotless and without blemish. Of course, this has immense ramifications for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. What should happen, is that the term should not be allowed to be used to explain whatever may, or may not, have happened in Auschwitz. Because it is sick to call the collective sufferring of many people, who were hardly without blemish, as a Sacrifice to God. The Levitical Priesthood folded up shop some 40 years after our Lord Ascended to Heaven.

My point, calling what may, or may not, have happened during WWII to Jews is being used by the ADL and B'nai B'rith to replace the ultimate Sacrifice, our Lord dying on the Holy Cross, with the collective sufferings of the Jews during this era. It's pure blashpemy. And through Dialogue with the Jews, our Bishops have catipulated once again.

Okay, but there are plenty of times when we use conventional names for things even when we don't really agree with the etymology behind them. For example, I refer to those in union with the Patriarch of Constantinople as "Orthodox" even though I believe they are heretical schismatics who are certainly not orthodox in their beliefs. Similarly, I refer to the group founded by Charles Taze Russell as "Jehovah's Witnesses," even though I am certain that religion's adherents would more aptly labeled as "Witnesses of Satan." I can also speak of my aunt's "second marriage" even though (since her first was never annulled) the second is nothing more than state-sanctioned adultery.

"Women will like this..."

Excellent reason to change Scripture.

Oh, come on now, every Sponge Bob fan will understand booty!  Holocaust on the other hand will get lost in the images imprinted of the Nazi camps.  :(  Proverbs 31:10, the ode to "The Ideal Wife," is now a "Poem on the Woman of Worth." To change a Proverb because “women will like it better” goes with burnt offering and sounds a bit BOS cookbook to alter as you please to me.  :hmmm:  (BTW how did these: Fifty scholars and translators, linguistics experts, theologians and five bishops get picked?) Seems to just encourage the importance on self achievements rather than the focus on, oh, say… GOD.
“The thing about young woman or virgin is straight out of "higher criticism". This is a direct assault on the BVM. If there is no Virgin Birth, Jesus is not the Son of God, but the Omega point. This is wicked evil.” Very well said Timoose and I agree. :)
“Are the US Bishops going to have to get approval to use these changes for the readings at Mass, or can they start using them right away?” Just reposted damooster because I am curious also. ???
“And some people think the reform of the reform is going to happen.” Bakerville. LOL. Thought about it some more and still LOL. I guess I am naive.  :icecream:
“Every day the Conciliar Church goes further and further down the rabbit hole…”  CollegeCatholic, what a surprise to hear a reference “down the rabbit hole” and quite odd because I’m still trying to get what the bleep outta my head, only to find many rabbit holes here! LOL :duel:
QuisUtDeus- Beavis and Butthead…seriously! My husband is going to love that one!  ;D Que music head banging Godsmack- Bad Religion. Clarify: heavy sarcasm.  :metal:
“So in addition to not offending Jooooooz we also have gotten rid of wife because that would offend feminists. The Newchurch is declaring that Mary is no longer a virgin and she is just a "young woman." So tell me this isn't a new religion.” Petertherock reference the QUE music line J/K

Biblical translation, booty, Beavis & Butthead and rabbit (or should I indulge and say bunny) hole references on a traditional catholic forum, just makes me laugh.

If this is true, under what and whose authority can the NAB make these changes?

This is the type of Bible that would be perfect for the Episcopal Church, since they have no problem choosing leaders who openly thumb their nose at any doctrine of Christianity (and I'm not just referring to Robinson).

That's the biggest bullshit thing about NAB this time around.

From the USCCB's Facebook page about the NABRE
Quote:Third, the changes reflect modern English usage.  The most notable change in this regard is the consistent substitution of “burnt offering” for “holocaust,” a word now reserved for the sacrilegious attempt to destroy the Jewish people by the Third Reich.  The Holy See required a similar change in volumes II-IV of the Lectionary for Mass.

Dude, a holocaust (in the traditional sense) a synonym for "burnt offering." I don't see the problem in translating the word that way. Plus, most people think of WWII and the Nazis, not Jewish temple offerings when they hear the word.

Also, not including the term "virgin" in Isiah's prophecy of the Incarnation is a way bigger deal than this. The "virgin" verse has serious doctrinal implications.

The whole problem is that the Jews are monopolizing he use of the word 'holocaust' and rather than Our Lord being the center of history, the true holocaust, it is now being used exclusively for the jews.

The jewish question needs to be put in perspective and not allowed to become the defining moment of history with the help of Catholics.

Reason I'm upset regarding the use of the word Holocaust:  We're changing our sacred text (and by we, I mean the Conciliarists) because of outside secular influences.

A dumb one, at best.  "People only know what 'Holocaust' means regards to Nazis."  That's like saying we should get rid of ALL the double-meaning words otherwise people will be confused.

Oh well.  So it is with the Conciliar Church.  >:(
