we had this happen a couple of times, but never in the kitchen... what worked for us was to "seal" off the room as much as possible for a day or two... then get a couple of gallons of white vinegar... pour some vinegar into bowls, or pans or whatever and let the vinegar evaporate in the room... it really worked well... once the vinegar was gone, the room smelled a bit 'salad-y' but that faded quickly with open windows... good luck!
