Looks like he hasn't been on since April 30.  Maybe he's on a habitual ritual vacation? 

He'll come back with a profile pic of a sea creature biting his finger.

That sounds just right.  And then he'll change it in a week to a chipmunk eating a watermelon.

Alas, I make fun in my op but I am hoping the gent is alright.  He was posting rapidly so a 5 day break is quite a hiatus.

He said something recently about moving or changing jobs or something, and that he wouldn't have very much time for FE in the future.

I was just wondering this earlier today. My first guess was that he had gone underground to wait for things to cool down after this Osama bin Laden business. However, I then recalled that he recently got a job as a professor, so that might explain it.
